  FOREX FACILITIES FOR RESIDENTS (INDIVIDUALS)

 

Purpose Eligible Amount
  • Private travel
  • Upto USD 10,000 in any financial year to any country except Nepal and Bhutan
  • For Nepal and Bhutan, Indian currency only without any limit except currency notes of denominations of Rs.500 and above.
  • Amount can be released on the basis of self-certification
  • Study abroad
  • Foreign exchange upto USD 100,000 per academic year or estimate from the institution abroad, which ever is higher.
  • Medical treatment

 



 

  • Upto USD 100,000 on self declaration basis.
  • For amount exceeding the limit, as per estimate of medical expenses from Doctor / Hospital abroad or Doctor in India.
  • For medical treatment, additional USD 25,000 can be drawn for meeting boarding/lodging/ travel expenses of the patient and also the accompanying attendant on self-certification.

  • Liberalised remittance scheme ( for any current or capital account transaction) which is inclusive of Gifts and Donations

International Credit Cards

International Credit Cards can be used for meeting expenses / making purchases while abroad without any limit and for making payment in foreign exchange for purchase of books and other items through Internet.

Surrender of Foreign Exchange on return Others
Surrender of Foreign Exchange on Return - Foreign exchange upto USD 2,000 in the form of foreign currency notes or travellers cheques can be retained indefinitely for future use. Amounts in excess of USD 2,000 have to be surrendered to a bank within 180 days and TCs within 180 days of return or credited to RFC (D) account. Foreign coins can be retained indefinitely without any limit.

Residents can open Resident Foreign Currency (Domestic) Account [RFC (D)] with a bank.
